DJ Lag to headline FuTopia festival in Zanzibar this August

The festival will return to Fumba Town after its inaugural edition in 2025, with organisers Busara Promotions expanding the programme to include more live performances, cultural activities and community-focused experiences.

DJ Lag will be joined by artists from across Africa and beyond, including Tanzania’s DJ Joozey, DJ Zoro, Midimu Collective, Baba Kash & The Band, Brainboy & Tarazouk Band, GlobalLocal, Princekim, DCMA Taarab & Kidumbaki Ensemble, Rody Joh, Ngoma World, Sauti Marley, Zainooba, Hammer Q and Ruth Mlawa, as well as Burundi's Vania Ice, Mexico's La Negra Mexa y las Cumbiancheras, Canada's Sidi Blue Moon and Chile's Playroots.

The programme spans a range of genres, including gqom, Afro house, singeli, Afro-pop and traditional African music.

Beyond the evening concerts, FuTopia will feature a series of free daytime activities open to the public. These include the Kwetu Kwenu Community Market, Food Art Street, the Afya Zone wellness area, the Asili Games section, the Wonder Zone for children and young people, creative workshops, art installations and sustainability initiatives.

The festival is produced by Busara Promotions, the organisation behind the annual Sauti za Busara festival, and is intended to combine live music with art, food, wellness and cultural exchange.

Tickets are required only for the evening concerts and headline performances, while access to the daytime programme remains free. Advance tickets are currently on sale, with organisers indicating that additional artists and programme details will be announced in the coming weeks.

FuTopia will once again be hosted in Fumba Town, an eco-conscious development on Zanzibar's west coast, with organisers encouraging visitors travelling from outside the island to arrange accommodation in advance due to expected demand during the festival weekend.
