Family of AKA to honour late rapper with exhibition

The exhibition is organised by the Kiernan Forbes Foundation in collaboration with music merchandise brand Bravado to give AKA’s fans, popularly known as Megacy, an opportunity to celebrate the late rapper’s impact and influence in the South African music industry.

The tribute event, set to coincide with what would have been his 36th birthday on 28 January, comes a year since his death. Born Kiernan Jarryd Forbes, AKA passed away after he was shot in Durban on 10 February last year.

The Forbes family says the exhibition will not only give AKA’s fans a chance to acquire unique apparel but also give them the opportunity to cherish the memories AKA left behind.

The Kiernan Forbes Foundation said: “The collaboration also provides an opportunity for emerging South African artists to showcase their talent and brings an unparalleled experience for AKA’s fans to enjoy. As part of Kiernan’s upcoming birthday celebrations, a pop-up art and merchandise exhibition will take place, featuring exclusive artwork and merchandise paying tribute to AKA. This limited-time showcase offers a unique opportunity for the public to acquire one-of-a-kind pieces.”

AKA’s father, Tony Forbes, added that the family had partnered with urban streetwear brand GALXBOY to manufacture the merchandise.

“It will be the original memorial T-shirt with the GALXBOY fabric and styling. As with their other products, the T-shirt will be available for buying and shipping in-store and online, including international shipping,” he said.

Meanwhile, South African duo Majorsteez has released the official music video for ‘Smooth Operator’, a track on which they collaborated with AKA.
