3Media Networks, the organiser of the 3Music Awards in Ghana, has announced a partnership with independent digital music distributor TuneCore ahead of the fourth edition of the awards ceremony on 27 March.
The development follows the 3Music Women’s Brunch on International Women’s Day, which recognised outstanding women in Ghanaian music.
The two outfits will collaborate to present the winners in the Most Streamed Song of the Year and Most Streamed Act of the Year categories. It will see TuneCore provide the shortlists and data for both categories and will reward the winners with marketing support in addition to one year of free distribution. TuneCore will also sponsor a promotional video for the winners.
The partnership is the latest step in 3Music’s commitment to award talent working in the digital music industry.
“The 3Music Awards continue to push the envelope from a marketing standpoint,” 3Media Networks CEO Sadiq Abdulai Abu said. “This partnership offers a lot of exposure to the artists who will receive the awards. We are glad to have TuneCore as a partner for the awards.”
TuneCore head of West and East Africa Chioma Onuchukwu said the company was thrilled about the arrangement. “These special awards will help us identify and celebrate the achievements of local Ghanaian artists and help them reach the next level in their careers,” she said.
TuneCore last month announced the appointment Onuchukwu and Jade Leaf as the heads of its new operations in Africa. In January, Leaf told Music In Africa that TuneCore’s local investment would allow the company to service artists in a way that contributes to the infrastructure of music on the continent.
“At the centre of our 2021 plans for Africa are partnerships with local entities to reach as many independent artists and music creators,” Leaf said.
The 2021 3Music Awards will be held virtually due to COVID-19 restrictions on public gatherings and will be broadcast on Joy Prime TV and 3Music Awards’ Facebook page.
