Multinational classical crossover vocal group Il Divo will perform at the Sun Arena in Pretoria on 9 and 10 November and at the Grand Arena in Cape Town on 13 November.
Comprising Urs Buhler (Switzerland), Sebastien Izambard (France), Carlos Marin (Spain) and David Miller (US), the group will share the Sun Arena stage with South African artists such as Freshlyground's lead singer Zolani Mahola, former Blackbyrd member Tarryn Lamb, Dutch soprano singer Amira Willighagen and duo Touch of Class. South African Music Awards-winning group The Voice of Angels will replace Zolani as the guest performer at the Cape Town show.
“People can expect to hear songs from Il Divo’s latest album Timeless, as well as all their great hits of the past 17 years,” concert organiser Charl van Heyningen told Music In Africa. “It will be a super, feel-good and romantic evening with a rhythm section and a live classical string orchestra.
“I am delighted to promote such a huge production to the people of Cape Town. It is a phenomenal show. Il Divo are ecstatic to be returning to SA after their smash-hit, sold-out tour back in 2005. This will be their first return visit to South Africa,” he said.
Il Divo will use the three shows as part of their world tour to celebrate their 15th anniversary in November. South Africa is the only African country listed on the group's tour schedule.
The group was founded in 2003 by X Factor TV judge and producer Simon Cowell who sought four unique singers to bring a fresh sound to the world stage. Their strength is their ability to blend operatically trained vocals and classical music with themes of pop, bolero, folk, tango, sacred and Latin music.
Their musical mastery found its footing in emblematic songs rewritten specifically for Il Divo. Their debut song ‘Regresa a Mi’ (the Italian version of 'Unbreak My Heart') is one such example.
Il Divo has sold more than 30 million albums and received 160 gold and platinum awards in 33 countries. Their biggest hits include Italian versions of 'Unbreak My Heart' ('Regresa a Mi'), ‘I Do Not Want to Lose You’ ('Si Voy a Perderte') and ‘I Believe In You’ ('Je Crois En Toi').
Tickets to the event can be purchased via Computicket.
