Kenya: Calvo Mistari and Naiboi release two singles ahead of joint album

The tracks were released through the duo’s publishing imprint Room 308 and were produced by Jegede, with Musyoka handling mixing and mastering.

The singles follow previous collaborations including ‘Rudisha’, ‘All My Dreams’, ‘Zama’, ‘The Prize’ and ‘Baddest’, which form part of the build-up to 308.

‘Nataka Nikujue’ centres on the experience of meeting someone new and developing an attraction, while “Give Me Your Love” addresses romantic interest and the confidence to initiate a relationship. Both tracks combine Afro-pop elements with urban sounds.

“‘Nataka Nikujue’ and “Give Me Your Love” capture the spark of meeting someone new and wanting to truly connect,” the duo said. “It’s about bringing back the essence of dating: real connection, attraction and the courage to make the first move. Both songs have a vibe you can dance to and enjoy.”

Nessa DeDiva initially joined the studio session to work on ‘Give Me Your Love’. After hearing ‘Nataka Nikujue’, she subsequently recorded vocals for the track, resulting in her appearing on both singles. Sydney 125 also features on ‘Give Me Your Love’.

The releases form part of the wider Room 308 project, through which Calvo Mistari and Naiboi are developing their joint album. The project is expected to include further collaborations as the pair continue to expand their work across Kenya and the United States.

Calvo Mistari and Naiboi first worked together on the 2021 single “Situation”. Their collaboration has since extended across songwriting, production and performance, with both artists having established careers in Kenya’s urban music scene.
