Kizz Daniel arrested in Tanzania for not honouring concert

According to local reports, the ‘Buga’ singer was absent from the Summer Amplified concert at the Warehouse Arena, where he was due to headline.

Kizz Daniel was allegedly picked up and detained at the Oysterbay Police Station after pandemonium broke at the event when patrons, who had awaited the singer’s arrival from 10pm on Sunday to the early hours of Monday, began vandalising the venue in protest of the turn of events. A video clip circulating on social media shows the musician being escorted to a police pickup.

Neither Kizz Daniel nor his management has commented on the incident, but the show’s promoter, identified simply as Steven, told Nigerian broadcaster Daddy Freeze that the musician complained of missing luggage upon arrival from Uganda where he had performed.

On Monday morning, Str8up Vibes, the event coordinator, issued an apology for the fiasco. “We acknowledge that this has resulted in disappointment for our loyal customers and long time valuable stakeholders,” the statement said.

Hours later, chairperson of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission Abike Dabiri-Erewa confirmed the artist’s release on Twitter: “KD has been released. His legal team will, however, report back to the police tomorrow while he will subsequently return to Nigeria.”

Despite enjoying global acclaim for his steady streak of hits and record-breaking streaming success, most notably ‘Buga’, Kizz Daniel has, in recent months, faced backlash for similar actions. In July, he was accused of keeping patrons of his Afronation US Classic tour in Maryland waiting for more than five hours. Weeks later, he was criticised for cancelling a concert in Denver.
