Listen to Tiwa Savage remake of Bob Marley’s Waiting in Vain
Nigerian artist Tiwa Savage has been featured on the latest remake of Bob Marley and The Wailers’ classic ‘Waiting in Vain’.
The remake of the song, originally released in 1977 on the globally acclaimed Exodus album, is available for streaming and download on all major streaming platforms.
On the remix, Bob Marley and Tiwa Savage call out to their love interests as they anxiously await their return, the anguish in their voices indicating both a desperation and a yearning to be reunited.
“Bob Marley is an iconic artist who is revered in my home country Nigeria and all over Africa,” Tiwa Savage said. “His music and message are just as relevant today as they were when first released all those years ago. I’m so in love with this record, and it's a complete honour to be part of this great project.”
The release is believed to be part of an upcoming collaborative project with African artists by Bob Marley’s estate and management that has already seen Ghanaian artist Sarkodie reimagine another one of the reggae legend’s hits, ‘Stir It Up’, which came out in January.
Bob Marley is one of the most iconic figures in modern music with immeasurable influence. Considered one of the pioneers of reggae, his musical career was marked by fusing elements of reggae, ska and rocksteady, as well as his distinctive vocal and songwriting style. Decades after his death, his songs continue to call for social justice and political consciousness around the world. He was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994.
Tiwa Savage, meanwhile, remains a resilient force in Africa’s music industry, conquering the charts in Nigeria and abroad. In November 2018, she was crowned Best African Act at the MTV European Music Awards. She was one of the performers at the recent coronation concert of King Charles III.
