MI Abaga goes to Oxford, delays album

The rapper’s last album The Chairman was released in 2014. Since then he has released his third mixtape Illegal Music III, and a concert held in March was supposed to herald The Love EP. The latter project is yet to be released.

On 4 September, the rapper released a statement on social media. Addressed to “the faithful supporter” of his music, Abaga explained that he will be heading to the United Kingdom for a fellowship.

“As I announced a while back, my album has been completed and is ready for release,” he wrote. “I am however delaying it short period so that I can finish a leadership fellowship in Oxford this September.”

The note continues: “Those that follow me closely know that I have always tried to involved myself in little ways I can be of service to my country and this prestigious leadership fellowship, the Archbishop Desmond Tutu Leadership fellowship presents a unique opportunity for me to do that at a higher level. I will be gone most of September and back in October to release music. I appreciate all the questions and want you to know I am eternally grateful for your love.”

In 2015, MI Abaga became head of the record label Chocolate City, sharing his time between recording music and overseeing the establishment. Recently, alongside Burna Boy, he was featured on the Phyno single ‘Link Up’. Watch the video below:
