Open call: The Future Awards Africa 2024

Now in its 18th year, the awards celebrate trailblazers that have chosen to defy the status quo and redefine the norm in their various fields. It is put together by The Future Project, a social enterprise communications firm associated with PR company RED Africa.

Eligibility

• Candidates must be aged 18 to 31.
• Nominees should have made significant impact in Nigeria or globally within the past year.
• Achievements must be well-documented and accessible.

Nomination Process

• Young African changemakers can be nominated online via this link.
• Nominations should provide detailed information about the nominee’s achievements and impact.

Judging process

• The judging process typically spans four stages over three months.
• A board of judges and an audit committee are involved in the evaluation process.
• Judges are selected from various parts of Africa to ensure diverse perspectives and fair assessment.

At last year’s ceremony, where awards were handed in 25 categories, Nigerian singer Asake emerged top in the music category, besting fellow Nigerian act Ayra Starr, Cameroon’s Libianca, French-Malian singer Aya Nakamura, and French singer-songwriter of Cameroonian origin Tayc. Other past winners include Tems, Wizkid, Davido and Burna Boy.

“It gives me great joy to know that this dream that began many years ago has become one of the prominent awards for Young Africans,” RED Africa CEO Ayodeji Razaq said at last year’s ceremony. “We must recognise those who have broken beyond the stereotypes to make a name for themselves. This serves two purposes: it gives credit to whom credit is due, but more than that, it fosters hope and faith in the future of the African continent.

“The Future Awards showcase to the world the prospects of Africa as a whole and encourages those who still dream of impacting their community.”
