On Thursday 11 August, the rapper Poe teamed up with his colleagues Tesh Carter and Tec from the group Show Dem Camp to perform at a Lagos concert. Tagged ‘Music Plus Unplugged Thursdays’, the concert, which took place at Fuze Sports Bar, also featured performances from the female rapper Saeon.
The event which incorporates the Music Plus app—for streaming and downloading music—and the weekly concert, was hosted by Larry Foreman and DJed by Crowd Kontroller.
The concert saw Poe, whose single Adore Her from the self-titled album by super-group Collectiv3 has been warmly received, followed performances by Saeon and Tesh Carter. Clad in a black t-shirt with ‘Mandela’ printed behind, he began his session with his 2014 single ‘Slow It Down’.
Following his performance of the song, the enthusiastic crowd of mostly women asked for ‘Chardonnay Music’, a song from Falz’s Stories that Touch album. The responded by saying he was unfamiliar with the words to Falz’s verse.
They then asked for ‘Adore Her’. Funbi, his partner on the song, was absent, so Poe asked that his audience sings the chorus. They obliged and by its end, the rapper gave a shout out and joined his group of friends. And then it was time for Tec. "I'm one-half of a duo called Show Dem Camp,” he announced. “Make some noise."
Tec performed some of the hit songs by the group including ‘Feel Alright’ and ‘Happy Weekend’. At some point, he recorded a snapchat video for his absent partner Ghost. After Tec’s performance, all of the night’s performers rendered ‘I Want U’, a song the group says was recorded after a drinking session.
Kevin Okoli, who runs the event, praised the quartet afterwards. “They brought real energy,” he said. “All four put in great performances, and Poe was mad!”
