Cotton Fest is gearing up for one of the most notable editions since its inception with over 130 local artists expected to pay tribute to Riky Rick, who passed away on 23 February.
The festival, which is in its third edition, will be held at The Station, Newtown in Johannesburg, South Africa, from 23 to 24 April. The event was previously scheduled for 19 and 20 March, but was postponed following the death of Riky Rick.
The event was founded by Riky Rick in 2018 to showcase different music genres and meld the gaps between the different local movements. It seeks to merge both well-known and young emerging South African artists. This year's line-up includes Cassper Nyovest, Nasty C, AKA, Boity, Big Zulu, 25K, Nadia Nakai, Emtee and Khuli Chana, among others.
“We have to continue to keep his spirit and legacy alive,” Riky Rick’s wife Bianca Naidoo said in a previous statement. “What better way to do this than to continue the work Riky has already started. Cotton Fest needs to go ahead as planned by him.
“His love and belief in showcasing young and upcoming talent is unquestionable, which is how Cotton Fest came about a few years back. And in his own words - we never die, we multiply! Let’s build on this energy, and continue to spread the love and light at a time when we need it the most.”
Tickets to the event will be available from 1 April via Webtickets and Pick n Pay outlets around the country.
