Spotify introduces WhatsApp status sharing for Android users
14 Nov 2025 - 10:45
Spotify has begun rolling out a feature that allows Android users to share songs, albums, playlists, podcasts and audiobooks directly to their WhatsApp status. The update, released globally in stages, expands the platform’s social sharing options and mirrors similar tools already available for Instagram Stories.
The new integration enables users to post content from Spotify to WhatsApp with a visual card displaying the title, cover art and an “Open on Spotify” button. Viewers can tap to access the full track or listen to a short preview within WhatsApp.
The feature removes the need to copy and paste links, offering a format familiar to users who share content on Instagram. Spotify already supports sharing to Instagram Notes and Stories with built-in previews, and similar tools are being extended to TikTok and Snapchat, where content can be posted directly within those apps.
Spotify has also expanded its own in-app sharing options, allowing users to send tracks and podcasts as direct messages within the platform. The company says this feature continues to be refined following some initial technical issues.
The WhatsApp status update will be available to both Free and Premium Spotify users over the coming weeks. Once active, the option will appear in the Share menu inside the Spotify app.
In addition to the new integration, Spotify has recently introduced weekly listening statistics for all users. These summaries, similar in style to Spotify Wrapped, can be shared across social media platforms including Instagram and WhatsApp in more than 60 markets.
