Tanzania: Alikiba appoints Kenyan executive Benjamin Otwal as new manager
05 Jan 2026 - 12:10
Tanzanian musician Ali Kiba has appointed Kenyan music executive Benjamin Otwal as his new manager, a move that signals a shift in his management strategy as he seeks to expand his reach within East Africa and in international markets.
The appointment follows a period of professional collaboration between the two, particularly during Ali Kiba’s recent engagements in Kenya. It places a Kenyan executive at the centre of the career management of one of Tanzania’s most prominent Bongo Flava artists, reflecting broader cross-border cooperation within the regional music industry.
Speaking in an interview aired on Crown TV and Crown FM in Kenya, Ali Kiba said his decision was based on first-hand experience of working with Otwal.
‘I have had the opportunity to work closely with him, particularly during my frequent visits to Kenya. His talent, sharp thinking and deep understanding of the business really stood out, which is why I chose him to represent me,’ he said.
Industry observers have described the appointment as a strategic move aimed at consolidating Ali Kiba’s presence across East Africa while positioning his brand for wider international exposure.
Under the new management arrangement, Ali Kiba is expected to focus on new projects, partnerships and live performances targeting both regional and global audiences. No further details on the scope or timeline of these initiatives have yet been announced.
