American singer India Arie, best known for such songs as ‘I am not my Hair’ and ‘Video’ will be playing a concert in Lagos, Nigeria.
Scheduled for 26 June at the Eko Convention Centre in Lagos, the concert is part of the Sax Appeal event. Now in its fifth edition, the event is organised by saxophonist Mike Aremu.
Alongside the American singer the upcoming concert will showcase Nigerian talent in the form of 2015 Hennessy Artistry star Praiz and Headies winner Timi Dakolo, artists who like Arie are situated slightly outside the mainstream pop scene.
According to Aremu, the event is “a jazz concert which aims to reach the hearts of music lovers around the world annually by providing quality live performances from highly talented artistes within Nigeria and different parts of the world.”
Artists who have graced the event since its first edition in 2009 include American smooth jazz saxophonist Kenny G and MOBO Award-winning saxophonist Yolanda Brown from the UK. South African-based Nigerian guitarist Kunle Ayo and South African singer Judith Sephuma have also performed at the concert in the past, as have local talents Bez, Cobhmas Asuquo, Yinka Davies, Tosin Love and Waje.
