YouTube Premium to raise subscription prices in markets worldwide

The price increases follow a series of adjustments made by the Google-owned platform, including a rise in US subscription fees earlier this year. In the US, the monthly individual Premium plan increased from $13.99 to $15.99, while the family plan rose from $22.99 to $26.99. Premium Lite increased from $7.99 to $8.99, and Music Premium from $10.99 to $11.99.

The latest increases vary by market. In Finland, the individual Premium subscription will rise from €14.99 to €16.99, while prices in other European markets will increase from €13.99 to €15.99. In Romania, the monthly price will rise from RON29 to RON32. In Singapore, the individual plan will increase from $13.98 to $15.98, while the family plan will rise from $27.98 to $31.98.

Customers affected by the latest changes will begin paying the new rates from their next billing date on or after 23 September. YouTube is expected to notify subscribers by email before the changes take effect.

The latest adjustments follow several years of gradual price increases for YouTube’s subscription services. The family plan in the US rose from $17.99 to $22.99 in 2022, followed by a $2 increase to the individual plan in 2023.

YouTube Premium Lite, which offers a lower-cost alternative to the full Premium service, was introduced more recently and has since added features including background play and offline downloads.

The increases come amid wider price adjustments across the global streaming industry. Netflix, for example, raised subscription prices by $2 earlier this year, marking its second increase in less than two years.
