Selbe Diouf, widely known as Sister LB, has established herself as a key figure in Senegal’s music scene. A committed MC and a multifaceted artist, she uses her music to tell the stories of her vibrant neighborhood in Dakar, while addressing inequalities and advocating for women’s empowerment.
Born into a family of musicians, Sister LB grew up in an artistic environment where her choreographer mother instilled in her a love for culture. Inspired by traditional Senegalese melodies from Teranga and hip-hop icons like Positive Black Soul and Missy Elliott, she defied the norms of a male-dominated rap scene to carve her own path.
In addition to her artistic role, Selbe is a dedicated educator and advocate. She collaborated with the United Nations’ International Organization for Migration, leading awareness workshops for youth in cities such as Dakar, Mbour, Diamniadio, and Rufisque. Her commitment earned her recognition as one of the “8 Most Influential Rap Artists” in Senegal by Music in Africa and features in renowned outlets like The Guardian and the BBC.
In 2023, she made waves by proudly representing Senegal at WOMEX, one of the world’s most influential cultural events. She also performed at notable festivals, including the Afropolitan Festival, Festa2H, and the Feminist Republik Festival, solidifying her status as a key cultural figure.
The year 2024 marked a turning point in her international career. Sister LB participated in major events such as OneBeat 14, the Bagiliba Festival, and the Pachamama Festival in Switzerland. She also co-authored Liées et déchaînées, a collection of short stories published in December 2024, exploring themes of resilience and empowerment.
Through her captivating melodies and impactful lyrics, Sister LB does more than inspire audiences—she challenges them to reflect on critical issues such as gender equality, social justice, and women’s roles in society.
