Cynthia Morgan

Cynthia Morgan (also called Marshall Morgan) was born in Benin City, Nigeria. She was raised by her mother and experimented with music in secondary school, recording a single while in her teens. She moved from Benin to Lagos in 2008, aiming to go professional.

She counts Foxy Brown and Bob Marley as influences. And her first brush with fame came when she traded verses with indigenous rapper Jhybo on the latter's 'Run Dia Mouth' (2010).

Thereafter she went on a hiatus. Her return caused a stir in the Nigerian music scene as she appeared with a racier image and a more aggressive sound. Although primarily a dancehall artist with hip-hop undertones, the highlife tune Ojoro (2012), released alongside the more straightforward reggae ‘High High High' (2012) showed a versatility previously unknown to fans. 'High High High' became 'Kuchi Kuchi' when a video was released in 2013 - one of several videos released to establish her brand new image.

A few singles and videos, including club favourite ‘I’m Taken’, have helped re-launch her career. She is one of a few young women vying for space among the male-dominated music scene in Nigeria. She is managed by Jude Okoye, elder brother to the duo P-Square, and signed to his label Northside Records.
