Open call: Artist residency in the US

The call is designed for emerging or professional artists, designers, writers, curators, choreographers, musicians and other creatives who want to contribute to the interpretation and communication of environmental themes through the inspiring nature of Everglades National Park.

AIRIE invites yearlong participation and connection between the selected Fellows with opportunities to connect, share research, and incubate ideas amongst each other. Each Fellow is offered a $4 000 research grant, institutional support from AIRIE’s network and partners, and a month-long residency in the Everglades National Park (with additional $1 500 financial support for travel and food). In return, the artists share their work and experience in the Everglades through public conversations, digital platforms, writing, and/or public viewing of artwork created during or resulting from their residency.

Eligibility requirements:

• Must be an emerging or professional artist in any artistic discipline, including (but not limited to) visual, performing, or literary arts pursuing research & development in their practice.
• Must be 21 years of age.
• Must provide their transportation options to, from, and while in the Everglades.
• Must be eligible to travel to the United States. AIRIE is not responsible for procuring or sponsoring visas to the United States.
• Each participant must commit to being in residence for the full month assigned to them.
• Must comply with contractual residency requirements.
• Applicants are responsible for all your transportation needs.

The below information is needed before completing the application:

• A brief artist statement.
• Biography.
• Résumé/CV (optional).
• Response to prompts about the intended work and the theme.
• Information about diversity demographics(optional).
• Work samples: For visual/music/video arts: five to ten pieces, with the ability to upload images, audio, and/or video. JPG images are preferred. For literary arts discipline, applicants may upload at least two samples with a 10-page maximum for each sample or 20 pages total. PDF is preferred.
