Airtel Uganda is the official sponsor of Eddy Kenzo’s 10 years in music concert slated for Kampala Serena Hotel on 4 January.
Airtel Uganda public relations manager Sumin Namaganda told local media last week that the company would continue to sponsor Kenzo in his quest to export Ugandan music and culture to the world. She said the company would provide ample financial support to ensure the event's success.
“We are proud to be part of Kenzo’s journey. Over the past four years, we have seen him become a global brand and reach heights only attained by great artists. We pledge to continue supporting Eddy Kenzo and promoting Ugandan talent,” Namaganda said.
“We invite the public to come and see what Eddy has been doing for the past 10 years. We are very proud to be associated with him. We would also like to thank the media for their support because there is no way his face would have been out there if you had not carried him.”
Eddy Kenzo said: “As I celebrate 10 years of my musical career, my path has been filled with success but it has come with its bumps. Nevertheless, together we have survived the storm and for this I am forever indebted. Come and be part of this milestone as we continue to make history together.”
Kenzo said he was grateful for the financial assistance he had received from Airtel since 2015 when he was appointed as the company's brand ambassador.
“Every progress that I have made in the past four years, Airtel has been a part of it because they gave me good money to shoot my videos. I normally shoot my videos upcountry with almost 50 people and they need to be paid and provided with accommodation and food.”
Over the years, the high-profile musician has built up a strong personal brand around his music. In 2017, the Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) named him as an ambassador for its #TugendeKenya and #MagicalKenya campaigns. He has also won numerous awards, including a BET and Nickelodeon Kids' Choice awards in 2015 and 2018 respectively.
In addition, Kenzo has organised a variety of community activities such as football matches aimed at raising money for charitable causes including children living with HIV/AIDS.
