Uganda's Eddy Kenzo appointed tourism ambassador
Eddy Kenzo has been named Uganda’s tourism ambassador by the Uganda Wildlife Authority.
News of the appointment was made public by the singer who shared the information on his Facebook page on Wednesday.
“As we all know east or west home is the best,” he said. “ Today we embark on a new journey as I sign as the Uganda tourism ambassador. I shall work hand in hand with all tourism departments to promote our tourist attractions and I’ll continue flying the Uganda flag so high with God’s grace and mercy. Thank you my Uganda.”
As ambassador the singer is expected to use his brand to market and promote popular tourist destinations in Uganda as well as the activities of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, both locally and internationally.
Kenzo told Music In Africa that he had always been passionate about his country’s cultural heritage.
“This is a great opportunity for me to promote Uganda to the world,” he said. “I am glad that the government is beginning to involve artists in promoting Uganda as a tourist destination for the rest of the world because music touches everybody.”
The singer said the government needed to continue supporting the arts industry by setting up professional recording studios to enable artists to produce quality music.
“Ugandan music is now global. We have so many regional and continental collaborations happening. So the government needs to see our worth and that was why I donated my 2015 BET Award and my 2017 AFRIMA Award to the Uganda Museum [in Kampala] just to show the government the potential that we have as artists.”
Kenzo’s appointment as tourism ambassador comes a month after the singer was named Favorite African Star’at the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards.
Last year, the singer was appointed Kenya Tourism Board ambassador in efforts to boost regional travel to the East African country in a campaign named Tembea Kenya.
