Ugandan musician Eddy Kenzo, who enjoyed a career as a soccer player in his younger years, is planning a charity football match in Masaka on 7 July. The match is aimed at raising funds for children living with HIV/AIDS.
The ‘Sitya Loss’ hitmaker said this week that Kenyan international and Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Victor Wanyama would also take part in the charity match in Masaka, after which they would go to Kampala, Uganda, for another charity game.
Kenzo said proceeds from the games would go towards supporting Ugandan children living with HIV/AIDS as well as former Ugandan soccer players facing financial struggles.
This is not the first time Kenzo will hold a charity event. In January last year the singer teamed up with Ugandan football stars Tony Mawejje and Vincent Kayizi, among others, for a football fundraiser in Masaka where they visited the local hospital to donate goods to nursing mothers and hospital staff.
Meanwhile, Ugandan singer Zanie Brown yesterday launched an annual project that will see her donate to the people of Katwe, the Sanyu Babies’ Home and the Teso region in Uganda. The project, #ZanieBrown4Schools, will see the singer and her team visiting schools to offer counselling and guidance to students. Brown will also donate reading material and lab equipment.
City Side College in Kampala has already benefitted from the #ZanieBrown4Schools programme by receiving 200 books for various subjects as well as jerseys for the school's football team.
