Felabration 2019 to kick off in London
London will host a Felabration concert on 30 August.
The event will be held at Indigo at The O2 to celebrate the life and legacy of Fela Kuti. It also aims to advocate for the preservation of African culture through music, fashion and the arts
The 2019 edition of Felabration UK is organised by the great Afrobeat musician's daughter, Shalewa Kuti, and is supported by British PR and events company DLA Worldwide.
“Fela’s music and influence have travelled the global music landscape," the event organisers said. "Its explosion and rise in the UK is arguably the biggest musical breakthrough in decades."
A event's line-up will include Awilo Longomba, Falz, Harrysong, A.star, Eugy, BM, Sona, Drumz with Atumpan, Mr 2Kay, Hotyce, Shiikane, Tomi Agape, Damibliz, and others.
The evening will also see American singer Lauryn Hill and Nigerian musician Majek Fashek receive honorary awards for their contribution to African music.
The UK event will precede the Felabration festivities in Lagos, which will take place at the New Afrika Shrine from 14 to 20 October.
The weeklong event is designed to fall on Fela Kuti's birthday on 15 October. Kuti would have been 81 this year.
