Ghana’s Sarkodie, Joey B named Influencer Africa ambassadors
04 Nov 2020 - 16:36
The news comes on the heels of the company’s recent launch in Ghana. Other Ghanaian influencers announced include Ameyaw Debrah, Joselyn Dumas, Caroline Sampson and Nikki Samonas, among others.
Influencer Africa plans and executes paid sponsorships, product placement and related content on behalf of brands to help them launch successful influencer marketing campaigns. Its operations span across Nigeria, Liberia, Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Uganda and Kenya.
Both musicians will join more than 5 000 celebrities and social media influencers in the music, lifestyle, technology, fashion, travel, food and beverage industries. Other personalities on the list include actors, celebrity bloggers and broadcasters.
Ambassadors signed to the company are grouped in four different categories based on the number of social media followers, namely mega, macro, micro and nano influencers. Mega influencers comprise more than 1 million followers, followed by macro (100 000 to 1 million), micro (10 000 to 100 000) and the nano level has less than 10 000, but are observed to have the “highest level of engagement and are great for peer-to-peer influence through user-generated content.”
With the growth in social media activity, influencer marketing has become a popular advertising route for brands that are looking to leverage on the impact of influencers on various social media platforms. Last year, a Hootsuite report said that nearly 3.5 billion people around the globe actively use social media. In Ghana, advertising reach on Facebook is estimated at about 5 million people, with Instagram and LinkedIn averaging 1.4 million, and Twitter about 600 000.
In September, Sarkodie was announced as an influencer for non-alcoholic beverage brand Malta Guinness. The rapper, along with actress Joselyn Dumas, was also credited with spearheading a highly successful marketing campaign for Standard Chartered Ghana’s SC Mobile banking app, which was launched in February last year.
