SA: FAME Week Africa announces new partnerships

Organised by Reed Exhibitions Africa and held for the first time in 2021, FAME Week Africa plays host to various shows, conferences and award ceremonies focusing on music, TV, film, television, animation and media, among other areas of the creative and entertainment business.

This year, FAME Week is introducing Muziki Africa, a B2B marketplace focussing on the core music business, such as labels, publishers and rights societies. It will also pay close attention to the music industry’s tech space through startups and big players while providing a platform for new African artists, music-related products and services.

“The importance of these associations and what they bring to industry events cannot be overstated,“ FAME Week Africa event director Judy Goddard said about the new partnerships. “Their grassroots credibility and emphasis on people skills and development are essential for growth, both in Africa and the world.”

FAME Week Africa’s partnership with Women in Music South Africa comes at a time when the music industry is ramping up efforts to create a level playing field for female music professionals. The South African chapter of Women in Music was launched in 2020 and since then has worked on empowerment projects for women in the local industry, including the Searching for Paradise competition, which this year welcomed applications from women-identifying musicians to submit songs for a chance to be featured on a compilation album. In 2021, the NPO partnered with Trace Africa on a number of events and programmes to promote gender parity in the industry.
