SA: Langa Mavuso releases single, announces debut album

The single is available for streaming and download here. ‘Love Lost’ is off his 14-track upcoming album Langa, which is set for release anytime in winter. In ‘Love Lost’, Mavuso relives the suicide of his first and greatest love.

“The song was inspired by my first heart break and the death of my first love,” Mavuso told Music In Africa. “In it, I reminisce on the sweet memories we created together. I talk about the sogs we loved, our first kiss and how I felt after his death. The title was inspired by the acceptance I finally found after losing love. I want people to know that it’s okay to remember the good memories even after the loss of love. It was my moment of closure and acceptance of what I’d lost.”

Mavuso spent three years recording the album in Cape Town, Johannesburg and London. The album was inspired by “two loves of my life and life after them. I revisited a lot of old journal entries I’d made about those experiences and turned them into songs. I talk about the pain of losing love, losing myself after heartbreak and finally finding my feet after all the pain.”

Asked what role the album would play during the COVID-19 pandemic, he said: “COVID-19 has given us a unique opportunity to be in isolation and with that we can finally have true moments of self-reflection. I think the album will give people the chance to reflect on their personal relationships with love and spirituality. It’s a record that makes you want to put up a mirror to yourself.

Mavuso’s precious releases include the Liminal Sketches EP and singles ‘Home’, ‘Sunday Blues’ and ‘Mvula’.
