Uganda: Bayimba festival announces 2019 line-up
Bayimba International Festival of the Arts has announced a heavy-hitting line-up when the festival returns to Lunkulu Island in Uganda from 1 to 4 August.
Unlike last year, when the line-up included a heavy mix of international artists from Uganda, South Africa, Kenya, Tanzania, the UK, US, DRC and the Netherlands, this edition will feature mostly local talent exploring traditional and popular music.
The local acts are Iddi Masaba, Gravity Omutujju, Faizal Mostrixx, Willy Mukabya, Sarah Zawedde & Zawee Band, Sammy Kasule, Lil Rich, Benjamin Prince, Leumas Owabajaja, Tushi Polo, Muserebende Hytham Ssali, Sandra Nankoma, Sandra Suubi, Aziz Azion, Little Black Kid, Nach Musik, Apio Moro, Poros Matali Group, DJ Mad, DJ Mashup, Izaya The Composer, Fya Leboof, Ras Brown, Kenneth Mugabi, Hola Jefe, Cheeko Dread and Moses Rallo.
Non-Ugandan performers include Leo Mkanyia (Tanzania), Sophia Burn (New Zealand), Jah Lex (Canada/Jamaica) and Gregg Tendwa (Kenya).
The 2019 festival will feature performances on four stages. The programme will also include a fashion show, art installations, film screenings, a photography exhibition and a workshop retreat for Ugandan bloggers.
For 12 years now, Bayimba festival has offered an exciting variety of artistic experiences to all audiences in the fields of music, dance, poetry, storytelling, acrobatics, theatre, film and visual arts.
The annual festival is organised by the Bayimba Foundation, which is also responsible for the DOADOA performing arts market, Amakula Film Festival, the Kampala International Theatre of the Arts and the Bayimba Academy, which mentors upcoming artists, especially those exploring hip hop.
