The organisers of the 2022 edition of the Worldwide Music Expo (WOMEX) have announced the second batch of showcasing artists who will perform at the music trade show in Lisbon, Portugal, from 19 to 23 October.
The new acts are Ghana’s Fra!, Nigeria’s Aunty Rayzor and Mali’s DJ Diaki. Others are Djazia Satour (Algeria/France), AfrotroniX (Chad/Canada) Karyna Gomes (Guinea-Bissau/Portugal), Prétu and Tito Paris (Cabo Verde/Portugal).
They will join the likes of Al Bilali Soudan (Mali), Aywa (Morocco/France), Djazia Satour (Algeria/France), Djely Tapa (Mali/Canada), Etuk Ubong & The Etuk Philosophy (Nigeria), Pilani Bubu (South Africa) and The Dizzy Brains (Madagascar), all of whom were named in the first batch of performers this year.
“This is a big avenue for us,” Fra! bandleader George Gogoe Ashirifie told Music In Africa. “It s definitely going to change our lives for the better as there will be over 2 000 music professionals in attendance. More opportunities should open up for us after we showcase in Lisbon in October.”
The organisers say the upcoming 28th edition features 51 artists representing 37 countries. Like previous years, the showcasing artists were selected by an independent international jury also responsible for curating the programme.
