Call for applications: NANA East Africa
Artists, arts organisations and art collectives from cities in Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda and the UK have been invited by New Art New Audiences (NANA) to apply for grants by submitting their projects before 13 August 2017.
This year, NANA wants to support five projects by artists, arts organisations and art collectives by awarding up to £30 000. Shortlisted candidates will be informed on 8 September after which they will be invited for a Skype interview before the final selection is made between 18 and 21 September.
The NANA initiative connects new audiences to new art, shares the skills of creatives and ignites partnerships between the creative sectors of the UK and East Africa. It is supported by the British Council, which is the UK’s international organisation for cultural relations and educational opportunities. NANA is a registered charity organisation that aims to give artists an opportunity to create new art together and to showcase this art to audiences across the aforementioned countries.
At least three countries must be involved in the project, with no less than two of them being from East Africa. Applicants should highlight the connections and collaborations in the specified countries, the project’s timeline, its audience reach, and budget.
There are no restrictions on art forms or themes, as the visibility and awareness of new contemporary art from East Africa and the UK is essential to NANA. Applicants are advised to focus on reaching audiences aged between 18 and 35.
For organisations, applications should be submitted by an individual who can show proof of experience in managing projects of a significant scale. The individual must also have a bank account and ID card.
In 2016, NANA grant supported 13 collaborations across East Africa and the UK.
