SA: Rowlene returns with new single Breakaway

The track is available for streaming and download on major digital platforms. Recently signed to ONErpm, the new project marks another defining chapter in Rowlene’s career, reinforcing her reputation as one of the most compelling voices in contemporary R&B. ‘Breakaway’ is the first single off her upcoming EP.

“This song is about breaking free from situations that no longer serve you,” Rowlene said. “It’s that defining moment where you realize your worth and choose yourself. Breakaway is an anthem for anyone who has struggled with letting go but knows it’s necessary for their growth.”

‘Breakaway’ was written during a period of deep reflection and encapsulates the bittersweet realisation that some ties are meant to be severed in order to grow. The song’s stirring melodies and evocative storytelling paint a vivid picture of love lost and the strength found in moving forward. Produced with a compelling mix of R&B and pop influences, the track highlights Rowlene’s versatility and ability to connect with listeners on an intimate level.

Originally from Cape Town, Rowlene first gained widespread recognition with ‘SMA’ and has since established herself as a dynamic force in the music industry. Her emotive 2020 album, 11:11, earned her the first South African Music Awards nomination in the Best Pop Album category. Her fame rose when her tracks ‘Cupid’, ‘Stay’, and ‘I Need You’ featuring Nasty C were all featured on the soundtrack to Netflix’s 2020 original South African series Blood & Water.
