SA: Footwear brand to sponsor Scorpion Kings live concert

The sponsorship forms part of Converse’s Love Chuck campaign, which focuses on the cultural influence of the Chuck Taylor sneaker within music, fashion and art. The campaign promotes themes of individuality, self-expression and youth creativity.

As part of the promotion, Converse has launched a retail initiative under the banner Get Ready with Chucks. Customers who spend R3 000 or more on Converse products at selected retailers will receive two tickets to the Scorpion Kings concert, while supplies last.

The Scorpion Kings, made up of DJ Maphorisa and Kabza De Small, are recognised for popularising the South African house sub-genre amapiano internationally. The duo has been credited with helping the style reach global audiences.

The partnership between Converse and the Scorpion Kings links a global fashion brand with a leading force in South African music, ahead of what is expected to be one of the year’s major live events.

The concert seeks to pay tribute to veteran South African composer Caiphus Semenya, and will feature a wide range of performers, including Ami Faku, Aymos, Bontle Smith, Cassper Nyovest, Daliwonga, Focalistic, Kamo Mphela, Kwesta, Mafikizolo, Mawhoo, Mlindo The Vocalist, Msaki, Mthunzi, Njelic, Nkosazana Daughter, Nokwazi, Oskido, Phila Dlozi, Ricky Lenyora, Sizwe Alakine, Sjava, Thatohatsi, Tracy, Uhuru, Umthakathi Kush, Uncool MC and Young Stunna.

Tickets are available through Webtickets and Pick n Pay outlets nationwide.
