NEFCISA
NEFCISA

The Music In Africa Foundation (MIAF) is proud of its partnership with the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) as a Strategic Implementing Partner (SIP) for its Social Employment Fund (SEF). Through this collaboration, MIAF is running a national programme that is creating jobs, addressing skills gaps, and strengthening South Africa's creative industries — in line with the SEF's overarching goal to generate work for the common good and build community value through employment, social contribution, and inclusive economic participation. Operating under the banner NEFCISA (National Employment Facility for Creative Industries in South Africa), the initiative is recruiting and training participants, matching them with host organisations, and has already placed 1 500 workers across the country — surpassing its original target of 1 000. NEFCISA is delivered through a network of 20 host organisations spanning five provinces, who are actively hosting participants and contributing to work for the common good across South Africa's creative and cultural industries. Key Objectives: Support employment and entrepreneurship in the creative industries. Offer skills development and training programmes. Foster partnerships between public and private creative sectors. Promote South African creativity at both provincial and national levels Foster community development through social contribution.

Music In Africa Gender @ Work is a three-year training programme aimed at upskilling and increasing the participation of female professionals in the African music sector. Launched by the Music In Africa Foundation (MIAF) in April 2019, the programme is connected to the MIAF’s ACCES music conference – a pan-African event held in a different African country every year. This connection enables the programme to reach new participants in a different African country every year. The programme marks the beginning of a more concerted effort by the Foundation to support the participation and inclusion of women in all facets of its programmes and the music sector in Africa as a whole. Over the three years, the programme will aim to address gender imbalances in the sector through training, lobbying, facilitating knowledge exchange and dialogues that foster the interest of women. For cultural and creative practitioners and organisations operating in southern Africa, access to funding remains a major challenge. The COVID-19 pandemic has also had a massive impact on government policy, spending and the economy in general, and has seen spending on culture being moved further down the list of priorities. Further, the cultural and creative industries repeatedly cite four main areas where investment is needed for growth, which are increased visibility, mobility including access to new markets, finance and support structures.

LUUKHANYO

BIO

LUUKHANYO, the dynamic South African R&B rapper from Cape Town, is set to take the music scene by storm with his highly anticipated debut album, LUCKY UU, dropping in 2025. Known for his captivating blend of contemporary R&B, hip-hop, funk, and jazz, LUUKHANYO has been steadily rising through the ranks of the South African music industry and beyond. With standout performances at major festivals like CottonFest, Smalltown Beat, Up the Creek, Feastival and the MTN Bushfire, LUUKHANYO has not only gained recognition for his magnetic stage presence but also for his fashion-forward sensibilities, donning creations by renowned local designer Lukhanyo Mdingi.
One of LUUKHANYO’s most notable achievements was the success of his single "Hii ROLLER," which amassed over 3 million streams and served as a turning point in his career. His European tour with The Hii ROLLERS, along with two major festival appearances, solidified his growing international presence. Now, with the backing of a London-based label, LUUKHANYO is on the cusp of releasing LUCKY UU, a project that promises to elevate his artistry to new heights.

The journey leading to this album has been both challenging and transformative for LUUKHANYO. He describes the process as one filled with personal and artistic growth, leading to a newfound appreciation for the craft of album-making. Reflecting on memorable moments, LUUKHANYO recalls being in awe of Stogie T’s verse on one of his tracks, an experience that reshaped his approach to making music and deepened his commitment to excellence.

LUCKY UU tells the story of a flawed individual navigating life’s highs and lows, with themes of self-discovery, redemption, and the pursuit of success running throughout. Although the album takes listeners on an emotional journey, it leaves things open-ended, hinting at a more hopeful future while embracing the complexities of LUUKHANYO’s life experiences.

Sonically, LUCKY UU marks a significant evolution from LUUKHANYO’s earlier releases, like his 2021 debut single "FLOAT." He has become more intentional with his sound, pushing boundaries while remaining true to his roots. The album, produced in collaboration with artists such as SYRE, Saké, LordKeyyZ, giuliette price, and James Carl Smith, promises to deliver a rich, genre-blending experience. LUUKHANYO’s artistic growth is also reflected in his willingness to explore uncomfortable truths, giving the album an authentic and raw edge.
With pre-release singles like "Open Casket" set to drop in late November 2024, and two more in early 2025, anticipation for LUCKY UU continues to build. Tracks like "Sweet Renegade" and "Mama’s Ugly Ducklin’" offer glimpses into LUUKHANYO’s introspective storytelling, drawing from personal experiences and societal observations.
The album’s visuals, crafted in collaboration with Ruben Barkhuizen and Orie, mirror its cinematic feel. The cover, a self-portrait collage, encapsulates the emotional depth of the project, while the music videos are expected to reflect LUUKHANYO’s vision of authenticity and self-expression.
Looking ahead, LUUKHANYO hopes LUCKY UU will inspire listeners to embrace their truths and reject the pressures of instant gratification. His journey, marked by personal growth and a relentless drive to create meaningful art, offers a message of resilience and self-discovery—one that LUUKHANYO is eager to share with the world.
