BIO
The legendary Jah Seed, real name Adrian Anesu Mupemhi, is a key figure in the African music scene and the Reggae and Dancehall space on the continent . He co-founded the acclaimed South African group Bongo Maffin alongside Thandiswa Mazwai, Speedy and Stoan. Bongo Maffin, a pioneering kwaito music group, was formed in Johannesburg in 1996 by Zimbabwean-born Jah Seed. The group achieved widespread success with hits like Thathisigubhu from The Concerto, Kura Uone from New Construction, and The Way Kungakhona from Bongolution.
Jah Seed, formerly known as Apple Seed, has been a driving force in the African reggae and dancehall scene. Notably, he proudly incorporated his native Shona language into his music gaining wide acceptance for his unique dancehall style.
Despite his significant contributions to African music, Jah Seed’s impact remains underappreciated. Here’s a snippet from a classic kwaito documentary to highlight his influence.
