BIO
Nokuthula Fundama is a South African vocalist, songwriter, and poet, born in Kwa-Thema, Gauteng. She transitioned from a corporate career to pursue music full-time, developing a genre-blending sound that fuses South African rhythms with Afro-jazz, Afro-soul, and gospel, while incorporating traditional cultural elements.
Her debut album, Ngizoqina (2015), earned her the Best Jazz Gospel Song award at the 2016 SABC Crown Gospel Awards. In recent years, the Nokuthula Fundama Band has performed internationally at notable venues, including the Espace Miramar Theatre in Cannes, France. She performs primarily in her mother tongue as a means of preserving South African heritage and cultural identity, often using poetry to anchor her lyrical narratives.
Her discography includes the albums Ngizoqina (2015) and Phakama (Extended) (2022); singles such as Mandela (2019), Khululeka (2020), and Phakama (2020); as well as the EP Phakama Vol. 1 (2021). Her latest EP, Siyaphambili, was released in 2026.
