Bongo Flava star Ali Kiba arrives in Kenya for Coke Studio Africa
Celebrated Tanzanian Bongo Flava artist Ali Kiba arrived in Nairobi, Kenya recently to film the new third season of Coke Studio Africa. The star arrived fresh from the recent Kilimanjaro Tanzania Music Awards (KTMA), where he picked up no fewer than five KTMA trophies to underline his status as Tanzanian music's man of the moment.
In the upcoming talent search, the ‘Mwana’ singer joins a stellar cast of artists from Africa whose performances and collaborations have made a mark on the local and international music scene, in Season 3 of what is billed as “Africa's biggest music show”. Ali Kiba will reportedly be paired with one of Africa’s fastest rising divas, a household name both in Kenya and Nigeria. The two will work on mash-up collaborations produced by celebrated Kenyan trumpeter Owuor Arunga, best known for his work with Grammy-winning American rapper Macklemore.
As a first-timer on Coke Studio Africa, Ali Kiba is excited to be involved. "It's an amazing feeling to be part of Coke Studio Africa,” he told the media recently. “This is the place where I can show my fans that I can do better. They will also see how my chemistry with another artist in the music industry can be good!"
Ali Kiba has firmly established himself as one of East Africa's biggest stars with the release of hit singles such as ‘Mwana’ and ‘Kimasomaso’, which have received massive airplay, even reportedly earning him invitations to perform in the USA. He also collaborated with fellow Tanzanian rapper Mwana FA on 'Kiboko Yangu', the video of which was shot last year in Kenya. Ali Kiba's latest video for the hit ‘Chekecha Cheketua’ is currently enjoying massive airplay on local TV as well as internationally on Trace, following an exclusive premiere recently. Just days after the video’s release on Youtube it was already approaching 200 000 views.
Coke Studio Africa viewers can expect to hear his hits like ‘Chekecha Cheketua’ re-done afresh in the show’s new 'mash-up' format. This year, Coke Studio Africa has once again drawn the hottest talent from Kenya, Tanzania, Mozambique, Nigeria and Uganda. Ali will join East Africa's leading musicians, such as Maurice Kirya, Avril, Juliana Kanyamozi and Fid Q in the new season of the show. For more details visit the Coke Studio Africa website.
