Call for registration: Music production workshop in Nigeria
OY Productions in Nigeria is calling on emerging and established music producers to register for its Music Producer Empowerment workshop at Diamond Vibez Studio in Lekki, Lagos State, on 21 August.
The free workshop will be led by producer, sound engineer, music instructor and OY Productions founder Odunayo Yusuf. It seeks to equip participants with insight into the music business and explore mixing and mastering techniques by drawing from Yusuf’s knowledge and experience of more than 15 years.
Yusuf is widely respected for his productions across a wide range of genres including Afrobeats, Afro-swing, Afro-house, Afropop, reggae-dancehall and zouk. He has worked with artists like Olamide, Awilo Longomba, Patoranking, Stonebwoy and Wande Coal.
He will be joined by industry colleagues Milla Mix, Fliptyce Beatz and music lawyer Akinyemi Ayinoluwa.
“There is something to learn for everyone,” Yusuf told Music In Africa. “No one knows it all in this business, so we encourage everyone who can attend to make a date with us. We will have experienced panellists sharing their knowledge on different aspects of the music production business.
“As much as I can, I want to make sure that can I help the amazing talents in our society. Young producers everywhere are just looking for a chance, and the industry will not give them one unless they have the necessary tools to begin their journey.”
Yusuf says that the workshop will attempt to provide a holistic view of music production and promotion. “For some, it might be to become a better marketer for their beats and for others to improve their mixing and mastering skills or to acquire the necessary gadgets to start. Whatever that next level is, helping them get there is our mission here.”
On how he expects initiatives like this to impact Nigeria’s music industry, Yusuf said: “It is my hope that more people will take after this initiative not only in the music scene but in every industry in Nigeria, so that more young people can be on their way to achieving their dreams. If we keep waiting for the government to do everything for us, we may end up waiting forever. So I hope this sparks a fire and a new wave of similar initiatives where established individuals in every industry reach out to help others who are struggling to stand in that industry.”
Admission for the Music Producer Empowerment workshop is free, but applicants must complete the online registration form here to secure one of 30 seats.
The organisers say some lucky participants will walk home with an assortment of music gear, software, sample packs and plugins.
