Nigeria: Boy Spyce joins Mavin Records
Nigeria label Mavin Records has announced emerging singer Boy Spyce as its latest signing.
The company unveiled the artist on 14 April, along with his eponymous EP, which is based on R&B and Afrobeats influences. The collection, which discusses love, life and sex, is available for streaming and download across all major digital platforms.
Boy Spyce sealed the record deal with the Don Jazzy-led label about a year after the 21-year-old went viral for his covers of a number of Afropop anthems, notably Wizkid’s ‘Essence’. He joins label mates Rema, Ayra Starr, Ladipoe and Magixx. Tiwa Savage, Wande Coal, Reekado Banks and Iyanya are among Mavin’s notable alumni.
“Being a tunnel with which a talent is being nurtured is a blessing I would never take for granted,” Don Jazzy said. “After being trained in the Mavin Academy by the best in the game, world please help us welcome and follow the newest addition to the Mavin Records family.”
Confirming the news, Boy Spyce, born Ugbekile David Osemeke, said: “A long-time dream that has been backed with hard work, patience, dedication and consistency is born. I feel blessed and elated to be going on this journey with you by my side. Thank you Don Jazzy and the Mavin Records family and everyone who has been a part of my journey.”
Don Jazzy lauded Boy Spyce and the Mavin team for being patient at a time when “most people are just looking for one quick viral moment instead of going through proper artist development.”
“We could have rushed and activated prematurely when he had this moment but he showed great restraint and chose to stick to his training. He has been recording judiciously since I first messaged him on Christmas Day 2019,” the veteran producer said.
