SA: Zahara, Msaki and Berita join forces for Sisters With Guitars concert
Founded and produced by Thato Radebe, the concert is intended to celebrate women in music, African music and bring fans together for an all-female musical experience.
"The aim of this event is to uplift women in music and to show that they can fill big venues by themselves," Radebe said.
"We have also decided to partner with female-owned businesses in putting together the concert. The aim is to empower women; that is something we believe should happen every day, not at certain times of the year.”
The East London-born Zahara came onto the music scene with such hits as ‘Loliwe’, ‘Ndiza’, ‘Mali’, ‘Mgodi’ and ‘Destiny’. The singer has worked with artists like Vusi Nova and the Soweto Gospel Choir.
Also from East London, Msaki is known for her powerful songwriting abilities. Her debut album Zaneliza: How the Water Moves has been praised for its alternative approach and for addressing the importance of culture. She has collaborated with Black Coffee, Black Motion, Tresor and Prince Kaybee. Her single ‘Pearls to Swine’ featuring Tresor and Kid X has been well received and is doing well on local radio stations.
Berita has mastered the art of singing in Xhosa and has performed around the world. She has worked with the late Oliver Mtukudzi, Dorothy Masuka, Kid X and Da Capo. Some of her popular hits include ‘Thandolwethu’ and ‘Ndicel'ikiss’.
