Mokorwana Cultural Group

Bio

Mokorwana Cultural Group is a traditional music outfit from Gaborone, Botswana. It is made up of Radikgang Madiane, Segomotso Lesete, Tshotlego Sekere, Otlotleng Tooto, Tebogo Sedima, France Kagelelo and a lady, Boingotlo. Unlike most traditional artists in Botswana who normally mix old Tswana songs, Mokorwana are completely current on the issues affecting contemporary Botswana. This is what differentiates them from other artists.

Founded in 2001, the group had challenges penetrating the music industry. Their debut album didn’t do well in the market and they were also overshadowed by other local traditional artists such Machesa and Maxy. They gained recognition following the release of their second album ‘Maitshwaro’.

The album features eight tracks including their hit ‘Maitshwaro’. The song enjoyed airplay in local radio stations and has since become one of the hottest tracks in the country. The album also features songs ‘Tshweu’, ‘Pulane’, ‘Go Bosigo’, ‘Matsogo’, ‘Lekgomanyane’, ‘Malome’ and ‘Omokae’. It was composed and produced by Madiane and was recorded at Dargie Digital Studio.

Their song ‘Tshweu’ was nominated at the Kora All Africa Music Awards in November 2004.
