Zewdy

Born in New York City to an Eritrean father and Ethiopian mother and raised in Union, New Jersey, Zewdy, began singing as a child under the guidance and assistance of her musician father, Habte Awalom. Singing soon became a natural part of the way Zewdy interacted with the world around her, expressing her self through school musicals, local talent shows, and both regional and national singing competitions.

Though Zewdy performed at various venues across the country, many on the east coast ( most notably New York City’s SOB), she began to receive greater notoriety after covering popular songs as well as performing original pieces on video and uploading them to YouTube. This unconventional way of performing at the time catapulted Zewdy to the forefront of the growing number of viral social media standouts. Boasting 59 thousand subscribers and over 16 million views, Zewdy’s talent, abilities and awareness garnered a large and loyal fan base, with whom she constantly interacts.

Zewdy’s dedication to music and the brand she built peaked the interests of industry professionals, record labels and popular artists alike. Acclaimed singer/songwriter Solange Knowles, noticed her talent, inviting Zewdy to join her 2012-2013 North American and European tour as a background vocalist. Even making a live appearance with Solange, performing 'Losing You' of Jimmy Fallon and 'Don't Let Me Down' of David Letterman.

Since the tour Zewdy has been constantly in the studio, recording and preparing to release music in the near future.
