BIO
Hazzy Bako is a Ghanaian singer, songwriter, and performer hailing from Tamale in the Northern
Region of Ghana. His music uniquely blends traditional Dagomba rhythms with contemporary
Afrobeat and highlife influences, creating a sound that is both culturally rich and modern.
Growing up immersed in the musical traditions of his community, Hazzy Bako was inspired by
local folklore, dances, and the iconic “talking drums” central to Dagomba culture. This early
exposure fueled his passion for music and storytelling. His lyrics often explore themes of love,
social justice, and cultural pride, resonating with audiences both in Ghana and internationally.
Hazzy Bako’s dedication to his craft and his innovative approach to blending traditional and
modern music have made him a standout artist in the Ghanaian music scene. His work not only
entertains but also preserves and promotes the rich cultural heritage of Northern Ghana, making
him a significant cultural ambassador for his region.
One of his notable tracks is “Zugsun” a collaboration with Peter Somuah, which showcases his
ability to fuse traditional elements with contemporary sounds. Zugsun will feature on his yet to
be released project called ‘Tamale Blues’ which is a sonic representation of the shape of his
culture and beliefs growing up in Tamale and beyond.
