MAYO THE DJ (real name Yamkela Msesiwe) is a Johannesburg-based DJ and music producer carving his path in the Afro house scene. Performing under the stage name Mayo the DJ, he represents passion, rhythm, and a deep connection to African electronic music.
He began his music journey in 2020 at Walter Sisulu University(Potsdam campus) - East London, stepping into the industry with a clear purpose: to create sound that moves both the body and the soul. Still in the early stages of his career, Mayo the DJ is steadily building his craft as both a DJ and producer, blending groove-driven beats with rich Afro house textures.

Inspired by industry icons such as DJ Shimza and Black Coffee, Mayo the DJ draws motivation from their discipline, global impact, and commitment to pushing African sound to international stages. Their influence is reflected in his dedication to quality, consistency, and musical growth. Currently based in Johannesburg, Mayo the DJ relocated to the city to fully pursue his dreams and immerse himself in the heartbeat of South Africa’s music culture. His long-term vision is to push Afro house music to the world and beyond, representing African sound with pride and authenticity.
