Mounira Khalil Alio, professionally known as Mounira Mitchala and affectionately nicknamed the “Sweet Panther”, is an acclaimed Chadian singer, songwriter, composer, and actress. She is regarded as one of the few female artists from Chad to achieve international recognition.

Born on 19 September 1979 in N’Djamena, Mitchala has developed a distinctive musical style that blends traditional Chadian folk rhythms and Sahelian desert blues with contemporary acoustic instrumentation. Her powerful vocals and socially conscious songwriting have made her an important voice in Chad’s music scene.

Throughout her career, Mitchala has used music to address complex social and political issues, including forced marriage, environmental desertification, the Darfur genocide and civil conflict across Africa. Her songs often combine deeply personal storytelling with broader reflections on society, identity and resilience.

Her international breakthrough came in 2007 when she won the prestigious Prix Découvertes RFI, a major recognition that brought her music to a wider global audience. The achievement paved the way for her debut album, Talou Lena, released in 2008.
She followed it with her acclaimed second studio album, Chili Houritki, released in 2012 through Lusafrica. The project featured several notable pan-African songs, including “Indépendance”, “Choukrane” and “Haguina”, further establishing Mitchala as a distinctive and influential voice in African world music.
