Bio
Vuma Zion multiple award winning artist, Mukelani Mkhonza is a musician, songwriter, and a music producer. He has contributed great in the South African Gospel music as he was a backup singer for great stars such as Lundi, Demo from Shana, Pastor Mjosty Mbuso Khoza, Themba Mkhize, just to name a few.
He was born at Newcatle Hospital and raised in eMadadeni. Growing in a Gospel environment, Mukelani’s father was a great worshipper at the Mkhonza family church which influenced him to be the great artist he is today.
Apart from Mukelani as the lead singer, Vuma Zion consists of 10 members that are based in Durban and 10 members from Gauteng as backup singers in the group. Mukelani says Vuma Zion’s strength is diverse because they learn from each other and that allows them to get along as well as to have peace.
The debut album was with a big hit song called “Adam Ukuph”, Vuma Zion managed to successfully sell a platinum and a gold to the mainstream record stores countrywide. Vuma Zion group was nominated for several times. It was with MTN SAMA awards and Crown Gospel awards.
Their album “Samsoni Aphi Amandla Akho” has won the 24th SAMA awards for the “Best Indigenous Album” category.
