BIO
Kweyama Brothers is a South African DJ and producer duo made up of siblings Philani Kweyama, known as Benny Maverick, and Siza Kweyama, known as Stanky Deejay. They were raised in Hammarsdale in KwaZulu Natal and developed their musical identities through the local club scene, township events and Durban’s evolving dance culture. The duo officially formed in 2021 when they decided to combine their experience and creative instincts into a single project.
Before joining forces, each artist had already built a foundation in music. Benny Maverick began DJing in the late 2000s and became known across Durban for his sets and his early production work. Stanky Deejay started performing at a young age and gained a reputation for his versatility, moving between hip hop, house and later amapiano. Their combined strengths shaped a distinct sound that blends amapiano with elements of deep house, soulful keys and rhythmic progressions that reflect their background in Durban’s dance scene.
Their breakthrough came with the release of the EP Mpumalanga, which featured the hit single “Impilo yaseSandton”. The track introduced their sound to a national audience and helped establish them as a fresh voice in amapiano. In 2022 they released their debut album Piano Over Poverty, a project that showcased their growth as producers and their ability to blend energetic arrangement with storytelling grounded in everyday South African experiences.
Kweyama Brothers continue to build a strong presence across clubs, radio and streaming platforms. Their work reflects collaboration, resilience and a commitment to expanding the boundaries of piano-driven dance music. As producers and performers, they represent an emerging generation of artists shaping the direction of South Africa’s contemporary sound.
