The third season of the Coke Studio Africa music show has commenced airing on various TV stations in Kenya, Tanzania, Nigeria, Mozambique and started broadcasting on Uganda's Urban TV on 12 October. The non-competitive show will feature 27 artists from Uganda, Tanzania, Kenya, Nigeria and Mozambique. In Kenya the show will air on Citizen TV every Sunday and will feature five songs on each episode. The first episode was broadcasted on 11 October in Kenya.
While for seasons one and two artists collaborated on one song, in the third season things have been spiced as artists from two different countries work on a mash up. Viewers will have a chance after each episode to vote for the best song that will be featured on the Coke Studio album. Before the production of the season began, all artists sent songs to producers. A producer then picked several songs from an artist duo to mash-up.
The show was recorded on location in Nairobi between May and September 2015. The artists were supported by a world-class production team in the production of the mash ups. This included Grammy-nominated South African musician and producer Zwai Bala (of kwaito group TKZee) as the music director and renowned international TV director/producer, Brett Lotriet Best as series director.
In addition to the newly introduced mash-up concept, the producers also introduced cyphers. Rappers and MCs already on the show including Dama Do Bling (Mozambique), M.I (Nigeria), Navio (Uganda) among others will be featured on the rap and freestyle platform. The Coke Studio Africa artists will also present two-minute acoustic music showcases that will present stripped down versions of their compositions.
