Open call: Cape Maclear International Film Festival 2026

The Cape Maclear International Film Festival (CMIFF) has opened applications for creatives from around the world to participate in its third edition, scheduled to take place from 15 to 17 October 2026 in Cape Maclear, Mangochi, Malawi.
The festival will showcase films from Malawi and other countries, alongside music, cultural activities and live performances.
According to CMIFF team lead Edward Longwe, the festival aims to provide a platform for local and international filmmakers to connect, encourage cultural exchange, and promote Malawian culture, tourism and cinema to wider audiences.
As part of the programme, the festival is inviting creatives to apply to perform during the event. The call is open to a range of disciplines, including:
- Musicians
- Dancers
- Visual artists
- Poets
- Dramatists
- Comedians
- Magicians
Applications are open to creatives from all countries.

Founded as an annual celebration of film, music and culture along the shores of Lake Malawi, CMIFF provides a platform for Malawian and international artists to present their work and engage with new audiences.
Now in its third year, the festival will be held as a standalone event following its separation from the UMP Festival earlier in 2026.
