Gqom is indisputably the most popular genre that has come out of South Africa recently. This new genre, which comprises sub-elements of Durban kwaito and house, is known for its heavy, dark and hypnotic beats that are turning heads around the world.
Gqom is fast gaining popularity internationally through such artists as RudeBoyz, DJ Lag, DJ Bongz, Babes Wodumo, Distruction Boyz, DJ Luvaz, DJ Tira and Mampintsha. Many of these artists are now being nominated for international awards and have become major celebrities at home and abroad. Big up!
As year draws to an end, we have compiled a list of some of the top gqom songs that made a splash throughout 2018, in no particular order. Enjoy!
