SA: Shekhinah leads SAMAs top-five nominations
South African singer Shekhinah received the most nominations in the South African Music Awards (SAMAs) top-five categories list that was released last week.
The ‘Back to the Beach’ hitmaker has been nominated in for Best Newcomer, Female Artist of the Year and Album of the Year. Apart from the three top-five categories, Shekhinah has also been nominated in the Best Pop Album and Best Produced Album categories for a total of five nods. She will be up against other young artists such as Rouge and Shane Eagle who were both nominated for Best Newcomer and Artist of the Year.
Following with two nominations each are Mafikizolo, Tresor, Lady Zamar and Shane Eagle.
“We did things differently this year to drum up excitement as the countdown towards Sun City starts in earnest,” Recording Industry of South Africa (RiSA) CEO Nhlanhla Sibisi said.
“We are proud of our nominees and we believe that they are worthy, and now the stage is set to see who will take home a SAMA 24 trophy come 2 June. Congratulations to all and best wishes.”
