Beauty for Ashes

Beauty for Ashes is a gospel band from Kigali, Rwanda. It is made up of five young Christians namely Olvier Kavutse (founder and lead vocalist), Maxime Niyomwungeri (drummer), Olivier Habiyaremye (electric guitarist), Ben Iyakaremye (bass guitarist) and Christian Bizimana (Keye). They sing their msuci in Kinyarwanda and English languages. Its founder is also worship and praise member at New Life Bible Church in Kigali.

It was formed when a studio prematurely leaked one of Olivier's songs to a university campus. The song went platinum among university students. Shortly afterwards, a famous artist arrived in town looking for an opening act, the university recommended Olivier. With no money to hire musicians, he somehow convinced an electric guitarist, a bassist and a drummer to join him at the last minute. They took the stage and the audience went wild and this led to the formation of the band.

Since its formation, the band has so far released two albums namely ‘Siriprize’ (2011), ‘The Wonders of the Son’ (2013). Some of the singles they have released include ‘Superstar’ (2012) and ‘Turashima’ (2013). The group has performed in countries such as Rwanda, Uganda, Kenya, Burundi, Canada, the U.St, Hong Kong and Singapore.
