Open call: Spaces of Culture programme in Sub-Saharan Africa

The initiative forms part of the broader Africa-Europe Partnerships for Culture, funded by the European Commission, and is aimed at supporting collaboration between African and European cultural actors.

Programme focus

The call supports contemporary cultural projects that promote:

• Intercultural dialogue
• Co-creation
• Equitable partnerships between African and European organisations

Projects are expected to reflect cultural relations principles, including mutual learning, dialogue and shared capacity building.

Funding

• Selected projects may receive up to €50 000 (about $58 500)
• A minimum 5% co-funding contribution is required from project partners

Eligibility criteria

Applications must be submitted by triangular partnerships that meet the following requirements:

• Projects must be implemented in Sub-Saharan Africa
• Partnerships must include:
  • At least three local cultural or civil society organisations
  • At least three EUNIC member organisations (or two where no EUNIC cluster exists)
  • The involvement of an EU Delegation
• Projects must be co-created and jointly developed by all partners

Priority areas

Projects may cover a broad range of sectors, including:

• Arts and creative industries
• Digitalisation
• Education
• Gender equality
• Heritage
• Human rights
• social inclusion
• Sustainability
• Tourism
• Youth

The programme also encourages innovative approaches, including digital, hybrid and cross-border formats.

• Applicants are encouraged to begin partnership development and concept design by 30 April 2026
